The development of technology in the transport sector has seen significant improvements in efficiency and reliability. Vehicle or Fleet Management systems are used for vehicle fleets to maximise use of vehicles. These systems store such data as mileage, details of vehicles (age, gross weight, body type and engine capacity), cargo carried, maintenance details, amount of fuel used and details of deliveries made. Importantly, multiple modes of transport can be integrated into the same system. The benefits for an organisation include:
- Improved vehicle utilisation
- Improved tracking of vehicle maintenance
- Improved driver management ensuring required levels of rest are achieved
- Improved visibility of vehicle life cycles
