The SCOR model is a management tool used to address, improve and communicate supply chain management decisions within a company and with suppliers and customers of a company. It consists of five different levels:
- Competitive advantage
- Strategy implementation
- Process definition
- Specific process elements
- Implementation.
This process related model aims to benchmark, refine and improve critical operational processes. It then identifies and introduces vital measures that monitor set cost and performance targets.
The SCOR model as illustrated in Figure 5, assigns performance metrics against key attributes and identifies those which are internally focussed against those which are customer focussed:

The metrics can be used in the design of the supply chain. SCOR encourages best practice and enables the focus to be on customer service, supply chain costs and quality of the process.
