Store and Customise – Store & Customise is the activity of storing and preparing products ready for despatch to the Customer based on their individual requirements. This may involve VAS (Value Added Services) for example kitting, co-packing and product customisation.
There can be many different processes and activities associated with product customisation that can vary by region, sector and customer.
Examples of Customisation:
- Attaching alarms to high value items, placing garments on hangers, over-bagging, quality checks;
- Promotional activity – despatching store displays with new or promotional products;
- Printing mobile phone contracts in multiple languages for the end customer;
- Re-packaging of products to meet specific brand or retail store requirements; and
- Re-labelling products to meet new legislation and guidelines for different countries.
Customisation has many benefits in the supply chain:
- Faster route to market by customising product at point of shipment instead of point of manufacture;
- Reduces obsolescence and inventory;
- Late stage customisation (especially where there are significant regional differences in product requirements); and
- Reduction in packaging and storage costs. Product is bulk stored then re-packed to meet specific customer requirements, branding, security etc.
