The Supply Chain, in its current form, can be traced back to the early 1950s but there is evidence of earlier Supply Chains from the perspective of the military.
Warriors and leaders such as Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Hannibal, to name but a few, utilised Supply Chains during their time in order to supply and sustain their massive troop movements.
More modern approaches to Supply Chains see the first point of the chain as the initial customer requirement and then the supply of the resources to satisfy the need of that customer base.
The flow travels from the requirement, to the raw materials to the consumer via finished goods. This pipeline of supplying goods to all the logistics elements in a single link is called the Supply Chain.
