It is possible to program the worksheet so that cells can change colour depending on their value. This is known as conditional formatting.
This is extremely useful if a worksheet contains a large amount of information where it would be very easy to miss seeing certain values.
Conditional formatting allows the user to define a set of conditions, and if the data meets the conditions, it will display in the format that has been specified (either a different font colour or fill colour).
For example, the user may require all values greater than £100 to be highlighted in red, so that they stand out.
Conditions can be chosen using a choice of arithmetical operations such as greater than (>), less than (<) equal to (=), etc.
More than one condition can be set, and each one can have several sub divisions within it.
In the following example, formatting has been applied so that any debit or credit figure greater than £100 will be highlighted in a dark red font with a light red fill.
