Card Kanban

A container with a Kanban card attached moves between Op 1 and Op 2.

Op 2 starts using material from the container;

When the level of material drops to a certain level, Op 2 takes the Kanban card off the container and hangs it on a board next to Op 1, which is the feeder operation;

This signals Op 1 to begin production to fill a second container;

Meanwhile: Op 2 continues to use material from the first container;

When the second container is full, Op 1 hangs the Kanban card on it. This indicates the container is ready for Op 2. This full container may stay in a stillage area until required at Op 2;

When Op 2 has emptied the first container, it can begin using material from the second container;

When the level of material drops to a certain level, Op 2 takes the Kanban card off the container and hangs it on a board next to Op 1 – triggering production to fill another container; and

This sequence is then repeated.

Kanban Cards are now being embedded with RFID Tags. This means that when the card passes a reader, the signal is automatically generated.
