The basic disciplines of robotics are AI, engineering, and physiology. This technology can produce robotic devices that utilise computer intelligence and have computer-controlled human characteristics.

This area includes applications designed to give robots the power of sight or visual perception; touch or physical capabilities to move over any terrain; agility, or skill in handling physical manipulation; motion and navigation, or the intelligence to find its way to a destination accurately.

Robotics is widely utilised in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
