As a result of a continued approach to increasing competitiveness and margins of profit, businesses and organisations increasingly see their supply chains becoming progressively more complex.

Supply chain risk comprises of any risks involving information, material and / or product flows from the original supplier(s) to the delivery of the final product for the end user(s). They relate to vulnerabilities and the resilience of the supply chain and comprise of two main types; External and Internal drivers.

External Drivers

There are countless external factors that could be investigated with each list, as well as the factors, being different for individual businesses. The use of a PESTLE analysis is a way to categorise these factors into six areas of consideration.
