Following the goods receipt process, goods can be transferred to stock. This is also known as the put-away process
The put-away process is illustrated in Figure 2:

- Locate – An appropriate location within the warehouse can be selected manually by the warehouse operator or the location may be determined automatically by the IMS.
- Schedule – In a busy warehouse, it may be beneficial for the movement of goods and MHE around the facility to be scheduled to improve the utilisation of the resources
- Move – Transfer goods from the goods receipt area to selected location, determined by the WMS in most cases, by use of MHE
- Place – Goods are then placed and the location recorded. In a modern warehouse, this is done by scanning the product and the location barcodes
- Transact – The movement should be recorded in the inventory management system.
