Goods Transferred to Stock (Put-away)

Following the goods receipt process, goods can be transferred to stock.  This is also known as the put-away process

The put-away process is illustrated in Figure 2:

Figure 2: The Put-Away Process

  • Locate – An appropriate location within the warehouse can be selected manually by the warehouse operator or the location may be determined automatically by the IMS.
  • Schedule – In a busy warehouse, it may be beneficial for the movement of goods and MHE around the facility to be scheduled to improve the utilisation of the resources
  • Move – Transfer goods from the goods receipt area to selected location, determined by the WMS in most cases, by use of MHE
  • Place – Goods are then placed and the location recorded.  In a modern warehouse, this is done by scanning the product and the location barcodes
  • Transact – The movement should be recorded in the inventory management system.
